REALISE Training Modules have been developed to offer students and scholars greater access to a wide range of learning opportunities that complement their formal academic and research training. Participation in the module program is value-added and customizable according to individual interests and goals. Modules cover competencies necessary to ensure trainee success both within their academic program and in their chosen career.
Do you have a great idea for a REALISE module? We want to hear from you!
Our program has been designed to be adaptable in order to quickly respond to the evolving needs of our trainees. If you have an idea for a module, please contact us at realise@ucalgary.ca.
Are you looking for ways to gain teaching experience? Consider leading a REALISE module!
Opportunities for trainees to teach can be difficult to come by. If you are interested in developing and leading a module - perhaps in a skill, technique or knowledge area where you have a particular interest or talent - please contact us at realise@ucalgary.ca. We may be able to help you with the costs of supplies, as well as with support and feedback before and after you deliver your module.
Interested in an external workshop or course?
We are pleased to support training opportunities for active REALISE program members attending approved workshops and courses external to the REALISE program. In recognition of the tremendous benefits that these programs can provide to our trainees, REALISE will provide a financial contribution towards the associated tuition costs. See the REALISE External Module Registration Award page for more information.
REALISE YOUR POTENTIAL
The REALISE program accepts formal registration from any student or postdoctoral scholar who is either supervised by a full member of the HBI or is enrolled in the University of Calgary's BSc Neuroscience degree program. Interested participants from other institutes and departments are also encouraged to register for individual modules and will be accommodated as space and resources permit.
"Participating in REALISE workshops helped me to get comfortable with my existing skills, and gave me the confidence to reach for those I had previously deemed unattainable."
Smriti Agrawal, PhD
Smriti Agrawal, PhD, was a postdoctoral scholar in the HBI's MS research program who went on to join the medicals affairs team in the Department of Ophthalmology for Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada.
