RHISE Program – Trainee Research Visits

The Rebecca Hotchkiss International Scholar Exchange (RHISE) Program’s Trainee Research Visits for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows was established to develop new interactions and strengthen those that already exist between the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI) and international centres of neuroscience research and training excellence. These visits are intended to augment the applicant’s training experience in a way that could not be achieved in their home institution and provide a unique opportunity for collaboration.

Eligibility:    

  • HBI Trainee - Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows supervised by a full member of the HBI may be considered for travel to any international institution (excluding USA)


OR

  • Trainees from Identified Collaboration Institutions - Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from identified collaboration institutions may be considered for funding to support travel to visit the HBI

Terms and Conditions:

  • Grants of up to $5,000 CDN will be awarded to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers wishing to make collaborative visits for up to 1 month to approved laboratories. These funds are designed to offset the costs of travel, accommodation and subsistence.
  • Applicants should be working in a similar or complementary field as their home laboratory.
  • Only one trainee per laboratory may apply for funding per year.
  • Travelling Fellowships can only be awarded once per applicant.
  • The date of travel must occur within six months of funding being awarded.
  • Applications will not be considered retrospectively.
  • Funding will not be provided to attend training courses.
  • Applications will be considered from postdoctoral researchers up to five years after receiving their PhD.
  • The application form and all supporting documents must be completed in English.
  • Eligible expenses include travel, subsistence and accommodation.
  • Receipts for all expenses must be submitted within one month of the completion of travel.
  • Within one month of the end of each exchange, a 250-500 word report will be required summarizing the results of the visit for publication on the HBI website.

Citizenship:  Unrestricted, but applicants are responsible for the attainment of an appropriate visa

Where Tenable:  Any institution outside of North America with a strong neuroscience component

  • Applications may be submitted at any time of the year, but must be received a minimum of four months prior to the proposed visit.

  • All applications will be adjudicated by the HBI International Strategy Committee based on the merit of the candidate and the importance and innovative quality of the work to be done.
