Calgary Brain Bee

The Brain Bee is an international competition founded by the Society for Neuroscience. These live Q&A competitions test the neuroscience knowledge of high school students around the world, and consist of oral, written and hands-on components.

Due to the ongoing circumstances surrounding COVID-19, the 13th Annual Calgary Brain Bee will be virtual this year. The local Calgary competition will take place on June 4th 2021 in conjunction with local brain bees from across Canada.

We are excited to extend an invitation to all Calgary and Southern Alberta Students, grades 9 to 12, to participate in this year's competition. More information on exact timing and schedule will be provided to students once they register.

Students can register here.

Test questions and their answers are sourced from the books, “Neuroscience: Science of the Brain” and  “Brain Facts” - PDF versions of the textbooks are available at brainbee.ca

The winner of the Calgary Brain Bee will compete at the virtual National Competition the very next day on June 5th 2021, and will also receive a scholarship to the University of Calgary Neuroscience program.

An additional $300 in prizes will also be handed out to outstanding students.
