The Research, Education And Leadership In NeuroSciencE (REALISE) program was developed to:
- Enhance HBI students' and scholars' success - academic, personal and professional
- Equip students and scholars for future career success in academia, industry, and beyond
- Position the HBI, the University of Calgary, and the city of Calgary to attract and retain world-class students and scholars
- Foster connections between students, scholars, and the local community

Designed to elevate your career trajectory, REALISE delivers dynamic training that builds professional skills and expertise in communication, innovation, leadership, technical skills, and neuroscience, plus targeted mentorship that links you to community and industry leaders for tailored guidance, networking, and a confident career transition, and mentorship for postdocs to maximize success in securing academic positions:
Training Modules
Designed to elevate your career trajectory, REALISE delivers targeted, modular training that develops professional skills and expertise in communication, innovation & entrepreneurial thinking, leadership, technical skills, neuroscience, and more.
Community Mentorship
Through dynamic mentorship, the REALISE Community Mentorship Program pairs graduate students and postdoctoral scholars with Calgary’s leaders, offering guidance, community insights, and support to help them achieve their career potential.
The Next Step Program
The Next Step Program provides HBI postdoctoral scholars with personalized guidance, expert feedback on job/chalk/teaching talks, mock interviews, and tailored sessions that maximize postdoctoral scholars’ chances of securing an academic position.

NeuroConnectIN is the HBI’s bold new initiative to support the career success and future impact of every student and scholar.
By connecting three HBI programs—REALISE, Alumni, and Innovation—this integrated program empowers our community through education, innovation, and connection, helping students and scholars pursue the careers they’re passionate about and preparing them to succeed in academic, clinical, and industry settings.
REALISE YOUR POTENTIAL
The REALISE program accepts formal registration from any student or postdoctoral scholar whose primary supervisor is a full member of the HBI or is enrolled in the University of Calgary's BSc Neuroscience degree program. Click here to learn more about registering in the REALISE program
