Your support makes a difference

UCalgary is the place to start something. The Mental Health Initiative for Stress and Trauma (MIST) started here as an enduring legacy honouring Mike McClay, who died by suicide in the Fall of 2021. MIST has already inspired donors like you to contribute, bringing us half-way to our fundraising goal. With this initial investment, the MIST team has taken significant steps to lay the groundwork for a highly innovative initiative that’s already placing Calgary on the global stage as a leader in mental health research.

With this solid foundation, we are ready for the next, critical phase of work that will unlock new discoveries about the brain and the underlying mechanisms of mental health, and allow us to begin developing and testing new, potentially life-changing treatments. Join us, and a passionate community of dedicated champions, as we work to understand, educate, and improve mental health conditions associated with emotional stress and head trauma.

Help us reach our goal of $10 million

Your donation will directly support our team of scientists in forging ahead with vital work to help those facing stress and trauma-related mental health challenges.

Fund a trial

Clinical trials measure the safety and effectiveness of medical treatments and interventions. They are essential to advancing medical knowledge and ensuring patients can access safe and effective new treatments. Unfortunately, however, clinical trials are difficult to fund. As a response to the devastating rise in statistics on depression, anxiety, and suicide, UCalgary is building strength in clinical trials. With your support, MIST can meet this growing need for research, interventions, and treatments to improve mental health and wellbeing across our community.
