Research and teaching
I am part of the Breast Cancer and Brain Tumors Site Groups and caring for my patients is my main focus.
However, during my training in Medical Oncology and Neuro-Oncology I became interested in clinical research, particularly in clinical trials design including a translational component and protection of human subjects & ethics. Currently, I participate in the design and implementation of clinical trials with special interest in enhancement of immune response to improve outcomes in patients with Glioblastoma and I am a member of the Provincial Cancer Care Clinical Ethics Committee and the Health Research Ethics Board of Alberta.
I joined the Alberta Breast Cancer Screening Program and the Creating Health Equity in Cancer Screening group (CHECS) with the aim to help mitigate cultural barriers to cancer screening.
Finally, I enjoy teaching to residents and fellows that rotate through my clinics but also in the Medical Oncology Residents’ clinic where I have the opportunity of mentoring future specialists. And since 2019 I am the Program Director of the General Practitioners in Oncology Focused Training Program aiming to improve the care near home of patients living in distant communities all over Alberta.
