Research activities

My multidisciplinary research program is focused on the investigation of endophenotypes and biomarkers of complex movement disorders (dystonia, Parkinson’s disease, Tourette syndrome) and their translational application to evaluation and treatment. Methods used include functional and anatomical MRI, TMS, immune markers screening, and behavioural and neuropsychological evaluations.

I have ongoing projects funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) of NHS England and the European Union, in addition to charitable institutions. I have also a special interest in the development and implementation of clinimetric rating instruments, as well as of management guidelines, for Tourette syndrome and drug-induced movement disorders. I am co-founder and Treasurer of the European Society for the Study of Tourette Syndrome.
