Biography

Angelique Jenney, MSW, PhD, RSW is an Associate Professor and the Wood’s Homes Research Chair in Children’s Mental Health in the Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary.   Dr. Jenney has 25+ years of experience in intervention and prevention services within the violence against women, child protection and children’s mental health sectors. Her community-based research and practice interests focus on the impact of intimate partner violence (IPV) on children and families including: family-based interventions for childhood trauma; child protection responses to IPV cases; and the use of reflective, simulation-based learning approaches to training both social work students and practitioners in the field.

Dr. Jenney has over 25 years of experience in intervention and prevention services within the violence against women, child protection and children’s mental health sectors. Her community-based research and practice interests focus on the impact of intimate partner violence (IPV) on children including: family-based interventions for trauma in children/youth; child protection responses to IPV cases; and the use of reflective, simulation-based learning approaches to training both social work students and practitioners in the field.

Simulation-based Experiential Learning

Dr. Jenney has been using experiential, simulation-based learning approaches in her teaching, practice and research work for more than 15 years and is particularly interested in how this learning can be applied to the identification and development of skill-based clinical competencies.

Projects

Exploring the use of virtual simulations to promote cross-disciplinary teaching and learning in inter-professional education in addressing childhood exposure to intimate partner violence (CEIPV).
Using standardized client simulation to identify procedural competencies for CEIPV professionals.
Collaborative development and assessment of Canadian core competencies for GBV specialists: Synthesis of academic findings, expert practice-based knowledge and survivor experience to enhance services.
