Research
Areas of Research
My first area of research focuses on psychosis and the risk of developing psychosis. Current studies are examining young people at clinical high risk of developing psychosis with the goal of developing prediction models of psychosis and having an improved understanding of the mechanisms of developing psychosis. Our studies include environmental, clinical and social risk factors as well as biomarkers. My second area is clinical trials where we are testing treatments that may prevent psychosis or at least delay its onset. My third area is the study of transdiagnostic staging models to identify youth who may be at different stages of risk of developing any serious mental illness. These studies examine potential clinical and biomarker predictors of developing serious mental illness. Ideally the outcome of my research will lead to the ability to predict with reasonable accuracy who may or may not be at risk of a serious mental illness, the level of risk of that individual and the knowledge how best to intervene at a given stage of risk.
