HBI Graduate Recruitment Scholarship in Neuroscience

This award reflects the commitment of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI) to graduate education in neuroscience. A goal of the HBI is to train the next generation of research leaders in brain and mental health. This award will allow the HBI to recruit outstanding graduate students to innovative, translational research training programs through the offer of highly competitive studentships.

Eligibility: 

Acceptance into a full-time PhD or MSc program under the supervision of a full member of the HBI. Application must be made prior to, or within nine months of commencement of the program. Applications for Mathison Centre funding must have supervisors who are full members of the the Mathison Centre to be eligible.

PhD: $20,000 and research allowance of up to $2,000
MSc: $10,000

PhD: Three years, subject to annual renewal
MSc: Two years, subject to annual renewal

Terms:

While the award guarantees total funding of $30,000 for PhD level and $21,000 for MSc level trainees, the HBI component of the award will be pro-rated by the amount obtained from other sources (i.e. Dean's Entrance Scholarship, external scholarships, supervisor contribution). Applicants must provide a letter of support from their research supervisor committing to provide a component of the award ($10,000 for PhD, $11,000 for MSc) until the student obtains an external scholarship.

The purpose of this award is to recruit students who will be highly competitive for external awards on the basis of their academic performance and research program. Thus, students holding this award are expected to apply for external awards or grants for which they are eligible, including those from provincial or national agencies. Renewal is contingent upon internal review of, and application for external scholarships, annual review of progress (including participation in HBI academic activities) and letter of support from supervisor.
