Denyse Lajoie-Lake Fellowship in Brain Research

The Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI) seeks to develop future medical research leaders by facilitating advanced training following medical specialty training. The Denyse Lajoie-Lake Fellowship in Brain Research will provide financial assistance for neurological research facilitated by the Department of Clinical Neurosciences.

  • Applicant must provide evidence of eligibility for inclusion on the educational register of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
  • Supervisor must be a faculty member of the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and a full member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute.


Salary: $45,000/year; research allowance: $5,000

HBI contribution: Total annual interest generated from the Denyse Lajoie-Lake Endowment (varies annually).
Estimated HBI contribution: $40,000.
Supervisor contribution: Top-up of HBI contribution to reach combined HBI-supervisor award total of $50,000 (total salary & research allowance).
Estimated supervisor contribution: $10,000




One year, funding available starting September 1, 2016 – 1 January, 2017

Nomination Process: Awards will be adjudicated by a subcommittee of the HBI Education Committee


Applications should include the following:
  1. a one page description of the research project
  2. a clear indication of the time allocated to research and to clinical training/service
  3. two letters of reference
  4. the applicant’s CV
  5. a letter from the supervisor providing:
    • a list of fellows in their associated program and the current source of their funding;
    • the supervisor’s CV (CIHR format or full);
    • a list of the supervisor’s currently funded grants (if not in CV);
    • and a commitment by the supervisor to provide top-up support for the applicant (estimated $10,000) if successful in obtaining this award.
