Do You Know Your H-index?
In the scientific community citations and journal impact factor are still the preferred methods for gauging scientific impact. So do other measurables such as the g-index and h-index hold considerable relevance in defining a scientific career?
The h-index, as many of you well know, attempts to measure the productivity and impact of the published work of a scholar. To determine this figure, a scientist must have X number of papers each being cited at least X times. Recently, HBI members were casually questioned about their thoughts as to the h-index. Reactions varied from acceptance to outright rejection.
