HBI Director, Dr. Samuel Weiss, leads the Institute and ensures that our translational research and education programs maintain a level of excellence that is internationally recognized. The Director also plays a key role in securing and managing the financial resources required for the Institute to realize its vision and mission.
The HBI has several committees that govern items such as strategic research planning and operating issues.
The Institute is overseen by a Strategic Advisory Board that represents the interests of our partner organziations and the local community. A number of committees serve to guide our activities and, in some cases, to perform operational roles for the Institute. The Executive, Strategic Research and Innovation, and Education Committees are designed to provide oversight and decision making functions for the core areas of the Institute's operations. We receive valued advice from our Community and Partners Advisory Committee which consists of members from the Calgary community. Our Expert Advisory Committee is comprised of highly regarded and well qualified scientists from around the world who provide an external viewpoint on and evaluation of our Institute activities and results. Our Community and Partners Advisory Committee is drawn from a group of business and community leaders and non-profit organizations and allows the Institute to receive input from a cross section of the local population. Our Fundraising and Stewardship Committee ensures accountability of the HBI to community supporters. The Committee is advisory to the HBI and the Development Office of the Faculty of Medicine, and supports the ongoing fundraising and donor stewardship objectives of the HBI.
